Barkha Surana

About Me

I am an applied anthropologist and strategist with over 7 years of experience across sectors like beauty, health, wellness, technology, fashion, and FMCG.  With a multidisciplinary lens, I specialise in transforming cultural and consumer insights into actionable strategies for startups, venture capital teams, and global brands.

Approach

As an applied anthropologist my work is research-led. I begin by understanding how people live, behave and make decisions and use that understanding to inform strategic direction. This approach travels across formats and stakeholders from consumers to internal teams, investors and broader markets.

Research provides context. Context provides meaning. Meaning enables strategy.

This ideology holds whether I’m working on brand positioning, category & GTM, product direction, strategic writing, VC intelligence or corporate/impact narrative. The outputs may change, but the commitment to research-led work does not.

Practice

Cultural Strategy

Turning cultural identities and  lived realities into insight that reduces guesswork and sharpens strategy.

Thought Leadership

Turning insight into narrative for POV's, shape discourse, and lead conversations across industries and culture.

Brand & Positioning

Clarifying how a brand creates meaning for people, wins relevance in culture, and competes inside its category.

VC/Market Intelligence

Providing evidence, category logic, and demand signals that sharpen investment conviction and strategic direction.

Category & GTM

Understanding how categories behave and evolve to inform where demand sits and how to win it through routes to market.

Product & Innovation

Shape product direction, feature investment, and adoption logic based on how people actually use and value products.
